Nestled in the Pyrenees Mountains just north of Barcelona are numerous charming medieval mountain villages with their stone houses and cafes built directly into the rock of the mountainsides. These Pyrenees villages have been amazingly well preserved and find themselves in the middle of very priviledged hiking and walking routes. Far from busy Barcelona, the loudest sounds you’ll hear on these small group day trip adventures are streams, rivers, waterfalls and the occasional sheep or bull.
Year-round, hot or cold, rainy or sunny, our Medieval Mountain Villages day trips from Barcelona has been our biggest success with small group tours and private tours since 2001. This is a day of great mountains, excellent views, amazing history and a superb restaurant lunch in a 200 year old restaurant. After a short drive from bustling Barcelona, you'll begin your day trip adventure by exploring a village’s winding cobblestone streets and stone houses dating back more than 500 years. You’ll find unique photo opportunities at every turn, as these villages are authentic communities where life simply goes on around you as you pass through exploring. Following coffee or tea at a local café, a short or long hike through wooded trails rewards you with streams, rivers, waterfalls and spectacular views of deep river canyons and the forested valleys of La Garrotxa and Ripolles. A fantastic, leisurely lunch in a traditional Catalan restaurant provides the perfect touch to these culture-adventure day excursions before returning to Barcelona.
