Just south of Barcelona lie the green valleys and steep rolling hills of the world reknown Penedès and Priorat wine regions, perfect escapes for a small group day escape side trip. Known primarily as “cava country” due to being the foremost and best producer of Cava (Spanish champagne), these Catalan/Spanish wine regions boasts many notable reds and white wines, as well. The hills of Alt Penedes, our primary destination for these cava and wine day trips, is where you'll enjoy exclusive visits and tastings to the vineyards and cellars of small wine and cava makers producing the most innovative and high quality wines in the Penedes wine country. Priorat wine tours teeter on the more gourmet wine tour side with a potentially higher appeal to "foodies" and lovers of full-bodied red wines.
After a short drive from Barcelona, we arrive to the Penedès (or Priorat) wine country where we are joined by resident wine makers for private tours of their fields and facilities, and most importantly generous and varied cava and wine tastings in each wine cellar. Between our viticultor's explanations and your questions, you’ll learn all you’ve ever wanted to know about Spanish (Catalan) wine and cava elaboration methods of the past and present. In the wine cellar among the oak barrels and aging bottles of product, you’ll enjoy generous tastings of white, rosé and reserve red wines and cavas, accompanied by a wonderful catered lunch or dinner of Catalan cuisine. Prior to returning to Barcelona, guests will have the opportunity to purchase wines at wholesale price to take home with them.
